The National Trust are supporting Will to Give Week 6th – 12th November 2017, raising awareness of the importance of making a Will and how you can leave a gift to charity or charities #changethefuture.

A very generous legacy gift will fund in full the restoration of Frizzell’s cottage which is a vernacular, hearth-lobby, mud walled house with a thatch roof under tin located at the entrance to Ardress House along the circular walk called ‘My Lady’s Mile’ in mid-Ulster.  The original cottage is thought to date from 1740 although is possibly significantly earlier.  Although characterised by a number of later extensions and additions built sometime around the 1950s, the cottage is typical of houses prevalent throughout south Ulster particularly during the mid-18th to later 19th centuries.

The project will seek to get the building into a condition where a long term sustainable use would be possible thus protecting the building for use by future generations.

The Spirit of Place of Ardress talks about the close links with the land and the Demesne, and the generations of people who have lived in the vicinity and added to the history of the community. Frizzell’s is part of this story and this project would safeguard the building and its now uncommon construction for future generations to see first-hand.
