Will to Give is delighted to welcome the Woodland Trust Northern Ireland as our latest member.

Did you know that the Woodland Trust looks after 50 woods across the country and they are all just waiting for you to explore.

It works to protect and restore Northern Ireland’s ancient and long-established woodlands and plant more native trees.

The Woodland Trust recently celebrated 20 years of the ‘Woods on Your Doorstep’ programme, which creates community woodlands within walking distance of cities, towns, and villages across Northern Ireland.

These woods have provided great natural spaces for families becoming a hub to bring people together supporting both mental and physical well-being.

Over 250,000 trees have been planted as part of ‘Woods on your Doorstep‘ at sites including Carnmoney Hill and Monkstown Wood in Newtownabbey, Drumnaph Woodland in Maghera, Cabin Wood in Cookstown, Corrog Wood in Portaferry, Canal Wood in Poyntzpass, Glasswater Wood in Crossgar, Oaks Wood in the Faughan Valley and Throne Wood in Belfast.

These woods have provided great natural spaces for families and hosted over 1000 events becoming a hub to bring people together. Local communities have enjoyed playing, planting trees, running, walking, bird watching and more recently escaping the rigours of daily life and the pressures of the pandemic.

The Woodland Trust also works to ensure that the Northern Ireland assembly prioritises native trees and woodland in order to address the climate and nature emergencies and deliver a sustainable recovery from the Covid 19 pandemic. This work is set out in their manifesto.
