Will to Give is a membership charity of over 60 charities in Northern Ireland, working together to promote gifts in Wills.
Will to Give is dedicating the week of 6th- 12th November to promoting an increasingly popular way of giving, leaving a charitable gift in your Will, with our Change the Future campaign #changethefuture – what do you wish the future to hold for your charity?
Eimear McCooey explains below why she is leaving a charitable gift in her Will to Marie Curie.
“As Legacy Advisor with Marie Curie in Northern Ireland I work with our supporters to engage and inspire them to leave a gift in their Will to Marie Curie. So when Marie Curie offered staff the opportunity to take advantage of partnership with local solicitors to have their Will written for free I thought I better talk the talk so to speak!
It turns out that what I was saying was true, it is a very important and sensible thing to do – having an up to date Will in place is the ONLY way to ensure that your loved ones are looked after and your last wishes are honoured, and it was such a simple process! Of course, one of the things that means to the most to me is ensuring that Marie Curie can continue to care for people with terminal illnesses well into the future, so I’ve left a small gift to the charity in my Will but I hope that they don’t receive it for many years to come!”
Every day right here in Northern Ireland lives are transformed thanks to the generosity of gifts left in Wills by local people. These gifts make a huge contribution to our work and typically fund life-changing research projects and services which can impact on thousands of local lives.
Making a Will is something we all tend to put off, but it really is a hugely worthwhile thing to do. It gives us an opportunity to ensure our wishes are carried out, our family and friends are taken care of and charities close to our hearts are helped. Anyone can leave a gift in their Will. It really doesn’t matter what size – small or large, every gift is greatly received.
A very important part of Will to Give’s work, is to engage with local Professional Advisors. solicitors. Solicitors are best placed to provide practical advice for those who are making or amending their Will. We are delighted that several local solicitors are supporting our Will to Give Week and helping us create a lasting positive impact through our #changethefuture campaign.
One such solicitor lending his support to the campaign is Eoin McConville LL.B LL.M from Fisher & Fisher, Newry. Eoin says:
“Leaving a gift to charity in your Will, can help pass on the benefits you have experienced in your lifetime to the next generation. There is no better gift, that’s why I am supporting #changethefuture”.
