Tearfund are supporting Will to Give Week 6th – 12th November 2017, raising awareness of the importance of making a Will and how you can leave a gift to charity or charities #changethefuture.
Mae left a very generous gift in her Will to Tearfund and her friend, Marilyn kindly tells Mae’s story.
“Mae was a lovely lady who truly loved the Lord and was a faithful supporter of Tearfund. Mae always firmly believed that the greatest gift that could be given to people in the third world was that of fresh clean water which would help combat sickness.
Originally from Larne, Mae lived in England for many years, but moved back to Northern Ireland after the death of her husband. She got involved in church here in Holywood and that is where we as a family met her and subsequently were ‘adopted’ as her family. Not long after purchasing her home in Holywood the property went on fire and she lost everything she possessed and the bungalow had to be re-built inside. She told me she learnt from this that there was no point in storing or collecting ‘stuff’ as she put it and her decision was made to focus and invest in Kingdom building, something that would not spoil or rot and was of much more value.
She financially supported many charities and every January would go round shoes shops collecting empty boxes to cover with Christmas paper. These were given out to her local church and everyone else she knew, with a list of what to put in them and later in the year she would collect them and deliver to the designated pick up point.
She faithfully looked after a mutual friend who was badly injured in the Kegworth Air Crash and for years went twice a day every day to shop and cook lunch and dinner. Mae was always on hand to help and loved opportunities to be involved with anyone in need. She was practical, funny, quite eccentric and much loved by everyone who shared life with her and her generosity will benefit many who never knew her or her them.”
