Peter Gilbert and Marie Curie are supporting Will to Give Week 6th – 12th November 2017, raising awareness of the importance of making a Will and how you can leave a gift to charity or charities #changethefuture.
Marie Curie supporter Peter Gilbert explains what inspired him to leave a gift in his Will.
Peter first came in contact with Marie Curie when his late mother, Florence, was cared for at the charity’s hospice in Belfast. Peter was so impressed by the care that his mother received that he now volunteers at the hospice.
Every week, he dedicates his spare time to helping the hospice staff, covering the reception desk and helping with the ward tea round. He’s also made a very special commitment by amending his Will to leave a gift to Marie Curie – something he is very passionate about.
“Saying goodbye to a loved one is never easy especially when emotions are running high. I found it comforting and reassuring that the Marie Curie Hospice team were there when I needed them. They cared for my mum with compassion and dignity. They also gave me the support I needed, which enabled me to start my journey of grief with positive memories.
Now, I am a volunteer at the Belfast Hospice and it is a privilege to be involved with an organisation that makes such a difference to so many people.
Preparing for the future is not easy. That’s why I decided to leave a gift in my Will to Marie Curie so that they continue to be there for the people who need them. I also know that my wishes will be met and that my gift will be applied to those things that matter most to me.”
