What we do

We’re the Royal National Institute of Blind People in Northern Ireland (RNIB NI) and we’re here for everyone affected by sight loss.

From to point where reading starts to become difficult, through the journey of sight loss right up to being registered blind, our practical and emotional support can help blind and partially sighted people face the future with confidence. Our Eye Care Liaison Officers (ECLOs), provide emotional and practical support upon diagnosis of an eye condition.

We offer individual and group support to give the practical skills, hints and tips to adjust to life with sight loss and empower people with sight loss to access services available in local communities.

We offer a benefits check and advisory service, providing support and information on benefits and concessions. Staff in our resource centre in Belfast are available to advise on products and technology that can help make the most of life.

We provide specialist support and advice to help blind and partially sighted people find work or stay in their current job and advise employers on how best to support their employees with sight loss.

We also work with children and young people to increase their independence, confidence and skills through a wide range of programmes, activities and events.

Everyday 250 people begin to lose their sight. RNIB NI has a crucial role to play in creating a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss. We campaign for change and want society, communities and individuals to see differently about sight loss.

Gifts in Wills

Gifts in Wills are vitally important to RNIB. In fact, did you know that almost a third of our work is made possible thanks to the generosity of people who choose to remember RNIB in their Will? Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most meaningful ways you can help break down the barriers people with sight loss face.
Reading that first book. Cooking a meal. Acing an exam. Mastering new technology. Learning means progress in our own lives and the wider world. But many people with sight loss don’t know where to turn to for advice and support; they’re not living the life they want to. By leaving a gift in your Will, you can help every person with sight loss build skills for life.
