I’m sure you can feel it too. That change in the air that lets us all know autumn is on its way. It’s fair to say it very naturally feels a time of change; as the leaves turn golden our children are returning to school, the nights draw in, TV improves and we enjoy long cosy evenings in front of the fire. It’s not quite winter but gone are the long bright days and fun outdoor activities. You may have more time to think, contemplate life, plan and act on things that didn’t seem so important in the summer months.

Take a step back and think of other changes happening in your life…

Does change fit comfortably with you or do you like to plan every second in your life? It doesn’t matter how you approach such things, what matters is what you do.

Perhaps you’ve experiences some major life changes throughout this last year?

There are times in your life when you need to take stock, plan for the future and make or update your Will. Do any of these apply to you? Have you…

  • recently bought a property?
  • come in to money or experienced a change in your financial circumstances?
  • moved home or abroad?
  • got married or made a civil partnership? (Congratulations!)
  • become a parent or grandparent? (What wonderful news!)
  • separated or got divorced?
  • lost a spouse?
  • experienced ill health?

How do you make a Will or update your Will?

When it comes to writing a Will, here at the charity Will to Give, we recommend always using a qualified solicitor.

The cost of using a solicitor varies depending on how complicated your Will is and where you live. The solicitor should make the costs clear from the start and the Law Society Northern Ireland can help you find a solicitor in your area. You can call them on 028 9023 1614 or visit www.lawsoc-ni.org

Consider leaving a gift in your Will to your favourite charity

It is easy to leave a gift in your Will to charity. Many people who give to charity throughout their lives also choose to make a gift to their chosen charities in their Will. For some, a gift in their Will may be the largest donation they ever give to charity. A gift, whether small or large, always makes a big difference to the charity concerned. In most cases, gifts to charity are free of tax.

How Will to Give can help you #changethefuture

Will to Give is made up of a group of 58 local charities (and counting) who have come together with one aim – to promote gifts in Wills.

We are raising awareness of this life saving way to give to charity from 6th-12th November, focusing on how a gift to charity in your Will will change the future.

Many of our member charities will be talking about their services and how they transform lives right here in Northern Ireland during this week. Some members will be offering free Wills. To keep up to date on this, visit our website and follow us on Twitter and Facebook #changethefuture
