What we do
Quaker Service is a family welfare charity which was established by the Religious Society of Friends in 1969 aiming to reduce violence and suffering by providing services which support, value and empower people. We are faith-based charity and our ethos is guided by Quaker Beliefs and values. Quakers believe that there is a divine spark in everyone and this fundamental belief leads us to value the equal worth and unique nature of each person.
Quaker Service works with disadvantaged and vulnerable families and individuals, assisting them to develop their potential and striving to improve understanding, tolerance and respect.
Our services are provided for some of the most marginalised and often forgotten in our local communities and include:
Quaker Cottage, a purpose built cross community family day care centre in west Belfast; The Cottage Teenage Project, engaging young people in gaining valuable life skills, promoting healthy behaviour and developing a sense of purpose, value and wellbeing and The Monica Barritt Visitors’ Centre to support the families and friends of people in Maghaberry Prison by providing a range of practical and emotional support services. We also provide Quaker Connections, a volunteer programme at Maghaberry Prison and Quaker Care, the charity’s social economy project comprising of 2 charity shops in Belfast.
Gifts in Wills
Quaker Service would like to encourage you to consider making a gift in your will. Sadly the need for our services is ever increasing at the same time as funds are becoming more difficult to secure. Gifts in wills are more important to us now than ever.
