Community Foundation for Northern Ireland

What we do

The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is a local, independent charitable foundation. We help communities in need, drive social change and change lives through impactful grantmaking and delivering innovative programmes.

Supporting bespoke giving and providing philanthropic advice we are a trusted, secure means through which donors choose how, when and where to give and we provide a range of management and grant making services for charitable funds.

In the last 3.5 years, the Community Foundation has allocated over £20 million in grants to communities throughout Northern Ireland. Amongst many, grantees include older people’s groups striving to reduce poverty and address isolation, youth organisations helping young people to develop employable skills, and women from disadvantaged backgrounds needing support to build confidence and a better future for their families. From large grants to help set up local community centres to small grants to simply help people pay for new clothes for a job interview, the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is giving grantees the tools and support to change their lives day after day, year after year.

Gifts in Wills

After taking care of your family and friends, you may wish to consider leaving a gift in your will to the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland. Our work is driven by our vision of a peaceful, inclusive and equal society in Northern Ireland. Since 1979 we have been a force for positive change in the most deprived and segregated communities across Northern Ireland.

Your gift will play an important part in enabling us to respond to the challenges that future generations in Northern Ireland will face and will be directed to those areas and causes that are most important to you and which match your own particular interests.

Friends of the Cancer Centre

What we do

Friends of the Cancer Centre is one of Northern Ireland’s leading cancer charities working to support patients and their families.  Based at the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, Friends of the Cancer Centre funds life-changing and life-saving projects that make a real and meaningful difference to local people affected by cancer.

The work of Friends of the Cancer Centre focuses on three key areas – patient care, research and patient comforts. Every year the charity invests over £1.4 million into local cancer services. With your support we can do even more.

Gifts in Wills

By becoming our ‘Forever Friend’ and leaving a gift in your Will, you could help us provide vital support for local cancer patients and their families.

Your gift could help us fund specialist staff trained to support patients throughout their cancer journey, clinical trials into new and improved ways to treat cancer or support patients in practical ways when they need it most.

As a charity, we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters and we know that every penny donated represents something, or someone, very special.  That is why we promise that every gift, no matter how small or large, will be used to make a real and lasting difference.

Marie Curie

What we do

Every day of your life matters – from the first to the last.  And when you’re living with a terminal illness, you feel that more than ever.

That’s where Marie Curie comes in. Our nurses work night and day, in people’s homes across Northern Ireland, providing hands-on care and vital emotional support. Our Belfast hospice offers specialist round-the-clock care. And we support people throughout their illness by giving practical information, support from trained volunteers and being there when someone wants to talk.

Whether it’s terminal cancer or any other illness, we want people to be able to get the most from the time they have left.

Gifts in Wills

Over the last 60 years, thanks to legacies from people like you, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people and families. But our ageing population means more and more people are living with a terminal illness.

Even now, carers say seven out of every 10 people with a terminal illness don’t get all the care and support they need.
We don’t think that’s good enough.

A gift in your Will would help us to do more, for more of the people who need us, for years to come.Because every day matters when you’re living with a terminal illness.

Northern Ireland Hospice

What we do

Northern Ireland Hospice is a local charity at the heart of the community.  We provide specialist nursing care to over 3,000 babies, children, young people and adults with terminal illness both in Hospice and at home.  We also offer invaluable support to families during their loved one’s illness.

Gifts in Wills

Hospice care is free to those that receive it but our annual running costs are £12 million.  With limited government funding we rely heavily on support from the local community through donations and gifts in Wills. We believe that everyone has the right to die with dignity and without pain and we want to ensure that Northern Ireland Hospice is here for future generations, whenever and wherever they need us.

Southern Area Hospice Services

What we do

Southern Area Hospice Services provides invaluable support and care to people living with life-limiting illnesses such as Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, HIV and AIDS. Our aim is to provide the best quality of life for our patients and their families and help them to live with their diagnosis.  All our services are provided free of charge to patients living in the Southern Trust region.

The services provided include a 12 bed inpatient unit, Day Hospices in Newry and Dungannon, a palliative care team in Newry, Dungannon and Craigavon, Donaldson Centre and Dungannon Resource Centre, Homecare Nurse in Armagh/Dungannon and Bereavement Support Services.

Southern Area Hospice Services relies heavily on the generosity of local people and the support of our volunteers who help staff deliver services in many ways, from patient care to fundraising.

In 2018, the Southern Area Hospice Services must fundraise £2.6 million to maintain the level of care currently available to patients and their families.  We rely on 73p in every pound coming from fundraising in order to provide our services.

Gifts in Wills

Each year it costs in excess of £3 million to run Southern Area Hospice Services.  We are a local charity and we receive one third of our funding from the government.  The remaining two thirds of our costs we must fundraise in order to keep our services operating at the levels needed.  Therefore we rely heavily on voluntary donations and legacies such as gift in your Will.  No matter how big or small the amount, every pound will make a difference.

It is a sad fact that one in three people in Northern Ireland will receive a cancer diagnosis at some stage in their life, and one in four people will die from cancer.  Your legacy will help us to provide care and support to a local family at their time of need.
