By making a gift in your Will to Action Cancer, you can be assured that it will be well spent in helping to save the lives of local young women through breast cancer detection and, in providing therapeutic supports and pain relief interventions to young and old affected by cancer. Your lasting legacy will be to make a positive impact on the lives of many local people both now and in the future.

Long Business Description:

Action Mental Health

What we do

Founded in 1963, Action Mental Health (AMH) is a local charity which works to change the lives of those living with mental ill-health and promotes resilience and well-being to future generations.

AMH delivers services and projects across the country for all members of our communities. Our health promotion work takes place in schools, community groups and with local employers.

Our employment services assist people to remain in work as well as providing skills and sourcing opportunities for those who want to re-enter the workforce. We have specific projects for young people, older people, people living with alcohol abuse, employees, employers, people managing long-term conditions, partnership work with other mental health and disability charities as well as working within our prisons.

We provide our clients with many opportunities, encouraging them to adopt healthier lifestyles and to widen their social networks. We also provide them with the skills to build a better future, set personal goals, develop coping skills, re-engage with society and become more employable.

Gifts in Wills

One in every five adults in Northern Ireland will experience mental ill-health at some stage in their life. As well as this one in ten children aged 5 -16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder, whilst half of all mental health problems start before the age of 14.

These statistics show the scale of the challenge that we, as a society, face.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you will be helping Action Mental Health to secure and grow our services for children, young people and adults, so that we can help tackle this challenge into the future.

As a local charity we rely on the generosity of local people through fundraising, donations and gifts in Wills.

All gifts received will be used to help us to provide services for people in Northern Ireland.

Air Ambulance Northern Ireland
Business Genre:
Long Business Description:

Air Ambulance Northern Ireland

What we do

Air Ambulance NI, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for the region.

Serious or life-threatening situations can happen to anyone at any time and on average, every single day in Northern Ireland, one individual finds themselves in desperate need of AANI.

The charity’s operational helicopter carries a crew compiling pilot, doctor, and paramedic, 365 days of the year operating for twelve hours every day.  They attend some of the most traumatic medical incidents across the province and are dedicated to delivering the very best possible pre-hospital care, both at the scene and whilst transferring the patient to the most appropriate hospital for their specific injuries.

Our EC135 helicopter can get anywhere in the province in approximately twenty-five to thirty minutes and the rapid response is vital in an emergency situation.  If a patient reaches hospital within the Golden Hour (60 minutes after their injury) their chances of survival are dramatically increased.

AANI is fortunate to count on tremendous public support and good will, and we will never take this for granted. It’s not only the medical crew who save lives, but the people who support our service.  Thank you to everyone for your support.

Gifts in Wills

It is not widely known that Air Ambulance Northern Ireland is a charity. Each day costs in the region of £5,500 and £2 million is needed each year to keep our air ambulance service operational. We rely entirely on support from the public and local businesses, including Gifts in Wills.

We’d be grounded without your support.

You never know when you, or a member of your family or someone you know could need the services of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS).

Thanks to your help, Air Ambulance NI has ensured that many families have been spared from the worst kind of news about their loved ones and that recovery from serious injury has been faster and better for the casualties we help.

Any gift of any size can truly make a difference.

Arthritis Care Northern Ireland
Business Genre:
Long Business Description:

Arthritis Care Northern Ireland

What we do

Arthritis Care is Northern Ireland’s largest charity working with and for all people who have arthritis. The pain of arthritis is chronic, long-term and is not just limited to the elderly or frail. Young people and those of working age are also affected. Living everyday in severe pain can make people with the condition feel depressed and exhausted. Simple daily tasks that others take for granted can become extremely difficult and time-consuming.

Arthritis is the largest single cause of physical disability and days off work through illness. It is not clear what causes arthritis and there is no cure at present. At Arthritis Care NI we help people of all ages to manage their condition and get on with their lives.

Gifts in Wills

Gifts in Wills are extremely important to us at Arthritis Care as they allow us to provide services such as training, mentoring/befriending and family and youth work services.

We also campaign for greater awareness of the needs of everyone with arthritis, improved services and an end to discrimination. We have a network of 21 branches and support groups providing assistance to people living with arthritis and offer free publications on a broad range of subjects.

British Red Cross

What we do

The British Red Cross helps millions of people in the UK and around the world prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies, disasters and conflicts. We refuse to ignore people in crisis. The Red Cross in Northern Ireland provide a wide range of services including responses to major emergencies such as fires and floods, helping people cope after such events.

We educate people in life saving skills, enabling them to respond to emergencies in their communities running courses and talks for members of the public, groups schools and companies. We provide time limited support to vulnerable people, helping them live independently in their own homes, reducing admission to hospitals and residential care.

We help vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees access essential services and adjust to life in a new country. We provide short-term assistance to people who are otherwise destitute.

Gifts in Wills

People in the UK and throughout the world depend on the Red Cross. We are there to help people, whoever and wherever they are, in crises large and small. Currently, around £1 in every £4 of our donated income comes from gifts in wills. We need that money to ensure our life-saving work continues long into the future. We also need it so that we are ready to act immediately whenever an emergency happens. If the British Red Cross is to continue helping people in crisis, it is vital that our supporters continue to remember us in this special way.

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland
Business Genre: ,
Long Business Description:

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland

What we do

There is little that causes as much anxiety and distress as a diagnosis of cancer. In Northern Ireland, one in three people will develop cancer during their lifetime and around 9,200 are newly diagnosed every year. At Cancer Focus Northern Ireland, we are here to help, especially at those difficult times by providing a range of services for patients and their families.

We promote and support internationally competitive, high quality research into the causes, treatment and prevention of cancer. Many cancers previously thought to be incurable are now being treated successfully as a result of scientific research.

We undertake education and prevention programmes, targeting young people, those most at risk and hard to reach groups. These programmes are vital in raising awareness of cancer and explaining how people can reduce their risk of the disease. Our public campaigns and advocacy work is designed to raise public and professional awareness of cancer issues and to influence policy makers to improve cancer services and public health policy.

You can do something really special simply by remembering us when writing your will. Gifts in wills play such a huge part as they are invested in ground-breaking cancer research. No matter how big or small your gift is, you will be doing something amazing by making a lasting difference to future generations.

Cancer Fund for Children
Business Genre: ,
Long Business Description:

Cancer Fund for Children

What we do

Every week in Northern Ireland, three more children or young people are diagnosed with cancer, leaving three more families to cope with a level of devastation that is almost impossible to comprehend. Cancer Fund for Children understands the impact a cancer diagnosis and treatment can have on the whole family, and that beyond the essential medical care, there is a family life that needs to be rebuilt. Our services include: one-to-one and groups support; therapeutic short breaks for the whole family; financial support during treatment; support for siblings; bereavement support; and our Young Shoulders Programme for children whose parent has cancer.

Gifts in Wills

A gift in your will could help us to ensure that more children can avail of therapeutic group activities at Narnia Log Cabin in Newcastle, where they can come together with other young people who are living with cancer to share experiences and gain strength from each other. It could help us to provide one-to-one support to a young person whose parent or carer has cancer, to help them cope with the huge impact this has on their life. Or it could provide short breaks for families at Daisy Lodge, our therapeutic respite centre in Newcastle, Co Down, giving families the opportunity to spend quality time together away from hospitals and treatment regimes.

Put simply, your gift will make a direct and measurable impact on our work. Even a small gift can make a big difference to a family. A larger gift will be a lasting legacy and we would be happy to discuss what could be achieved.

Cancer Research UK

What we do

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Our groundbreaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has seen survival rates double in the last 40 years. Our scientists and doctors have contributed to most of the world’s top cancer drugs and we have pioneered the use of radiotherapy to treat cancer.

We don’t just do research. Every year we help millions of people get the information they need to understand the disease. And, together with our supporters, we campaign on key cancer issues including access to cancer drugs, screening and reducing the use of tobacco.

More than one in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives. Our research to beat cancer is entirely funded by the public and thanks to that generosity our scientists, doctors and nurses are leading the world in discovering new ways to fight cancer. Research saves lives and our work is critical to ensuring more people beat this devastating disease.

Legacies are our largest single source of income and fund over a third of our life-saving work. CAUSE
Business Genre:
Long Business Description:

CAUSE

What we do

CAUSE is a regional unique peer-led charity which provides practical and emotional support for carers of loved ones with serious mental illness.  Our aim is to help carers sustain their challenging role by reducing their isolation and empowering them.

There is no other charity like us in Northern Ireland that provides support services including: one-to-one support and advocacy; training for carers and professionals; a network of carer support groups throughout Northern Ireland; a confidential Helpline for carers; social opportunities where carers can meet other carers; ways to engage with carers in policy and service development as well as specialist services for carers with loved ones in the justice system and carers of a loved one with personality disorder.

Caring for someone close to you experiencing serious mental illness is distressing. Families, partners and friends can find it difficult to talk about their experience of serious mental illness whether self-harming, seeing a loved being sectioned or just so out of reach from them due to their illness, they just don’t know what to do.

CAUSE more than ever relies heavily on the generosity of local people and the support of our volunteers who help staff in many ways, from operations to fundraising.

Gifts in Wills

Mental illness is higher in Northern Ireland than elsewhere in the UK.

Over the last decade, the 2011 NI Census shows that the number of carers in NI has increased from 185,000 to 215, 000.  (Source: Carers NI), 7% of whom look after someone with a mental health problem.  This equates to approximately 17,500 known local people caring for a family member or friend with a mental illness and it is a sad fact there are many others unidentified due to the associated stigma.

Carers are a growing group within our society and with this comes the pressures and risks to their mental well-being from the impacts of caring.   Services such as the ones provided by CAUSE are needed now more than ever. Demand for CAUSE services has increased markedly over the last few years as the number of carers whom CAUSE has been able to support has risen considerably.

We are a local charity whose funding from the government is being significantly reduced each year.  We must fundraise in order to keep our services operating at the levels needed.  Therefore we rely heavily on voluntary donations and legacies such as gift in your Will.  No matter how big or small the amount, every pound will make a difference.  Your legacy will help us to access and support many mental health carers at their time of need some of whom are children and young people.

CLIC Sargent
Business Genre: ,
Long Business Description:

CLIC Sargent

What we do

CLIC Sargent is a leading cancer charity in Northern Ireland for children, young people and their families. Our care teams have been providing specialist support to them for years.

We know that for young lives, when the doctor says cancer, normal life stops. Cancer affects every part of life – relationships, confidence, money, school, work.

CLIC Sargent care teams will fight tirelessly to limit the damage cancer causes. They will listen, and ask the right questions, so that they can provide the right support, tailored to each young person and family.

This might mean arranging a CLIC Sargent grant or helping young people and families get the benefits they are entitled to. Coordinating care so that some medical procedures can happen at home, or arranging free accommodation in one of our CLIC Sargent Homes from Home near Belfast City Hospital and The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Or helping young cancer patients and families keep in touch with school, college or work to keep life as normal as possible.

CLIC Sargent will also fight for young lives with cancer by taking what they tell us about the impact of cancer on their lives to the government, service providers and policy makers to improve things and make real change happen.

Gifts in Wills

CLIC Sargent is completely funded through voluntary donations, and gifts in Wills are hugely important.  Today one in eight of the young cancer patients we support are funded through gifts in Wills.  Just as gifts pledged in the past are supporting our work now, gifts pledged today could help us to be here in the future too.

Currently we can only help two out of three young cancer patients and their families. With a gift in your Will, you could help us be there for a child or young person facing cancer in the future. One day you could make the difference of a lifetime.

Dementia NI

What we do

Today many people across Northern Ireland will receive a diagnosis of dementia, this will often leave people feeling isolation, frightened and alone.  Dementia NI is your local charity here to ensure people with dementia take action, have their voices heard and improve the lives of everyone who has dementia.

Through the development and delivery of peer to peer support groups across all the health trusts areas, the Dementia NI empowerment groups offer support specifically for people living with dementia. Dementia is an individual illness and affects every person differently. Anyone can develop dementia – at any age, from all walks of life. The symptoms of dementia are progressive and on an unknown time scale. There is currently no cure.

Gifts in Wills

Dementia NI receives no statutory funding to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their families.  All our services are provided by the generous support of voluntary donations and especially the kind support from individuals who leave us a gift in their will. You can rest assured that every single pound you donate for us will help support local people living with dementia and enable us to reach even more people who need us every single day.

People with dementia are entitled to live well with the right support – Donate a gift in your will to Dementia NI and together we can make a lasting difference for people living with dementia in our community.  Today your gift will transform communities to better support people affected by dementia now, tomorrow and in the future.

Long Business Description:

Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI

What we do

Leukaemia & Lymphoma is the only charity in Northern Ireland solely dedicated to funding research into blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Every year we stop more people dying of blood cancer and our researchers are even working to stop people developing blood cancer in the first place. We improve the lives of patients with blood cancer because we believe everyone should be able to live their life to the full.

When our charity began in 1964, childhood leukaemia was a virtual death sentence. Now 9 out of 10 children with the most common form of this blood cancer survive.

We need your support to continue our vital research into better diagnosis, treatments and cures for blood cancers affecting patients of all ages.

Gifts in Wills

Every day in Northern Ireland, three people are diagnosed with a blood cancer. These cancers are the most common cause of cancer death in the under 35s but can affect anyone at any age.

We don’t receive any government funding and gifts in Wills currently make up approimately one third of our income each year. All the money we raise is spent in Northern Ireland and we simply wouldn’t be able to carry out much of our ground-breaking research without the generosity of people who include us in their Wills.

Over the last 60 years, thanks to legacies from people like you, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people and families. But our ageing population means more and more people are living with a terminal illness.

Even now, carers say seven out of every 10 people with a terminal illness don’t get all the care and support they need.
We don’t think that’s good enough.

A gift in your Will would help us to do more, for more of the people who need us, for years to come.Because every day matters when you’re living with a terminal illness.

MS Society

What we do

The MS Society is the UK’s leading MS charity. We’ve been providing information and support, funding research and fighting for change for people affected by MS since 1953.

We fund research, give grants, campaign for change, provide information and support, invest in MS specialists and lend a listening ear to those who need it.

Gifts in Wills

More and more of our supporters are choosing to leave a legacy to the MS Society when making or updating their Will. For many supporters, it’s a way of continuing a lifetime of support for a cause they care deeply about.

If you leave us a gift in your Will, you will be helping future generations affected by this terrible condition. Gifts in Wills are vital to make sure that, ultimately, we can continue our search for a cure. It will help us work towards stopping MS when you’re no longer around. Every gift, no matter how small, makes a real difference to people with MS.

Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke

What we do

Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke is your local charity dedicated to the prevention of chest, heart and stroke illnesses and the care of people whose lives have been turned upside down by them.

NICHS undertakes work that has an immediate impact on our community. We offer crucial practical and emotional help at what can be a very difficult and distressing time. We work with each individual to find the best way of coping with their illness through a tailored programme of support. We also offer practical assistance in the form of family support, self help and activity groups. Alongside this, we undertake health promotion activity at our schools and health checks at our local businesses. NICHS is also at the forefront of medical research, funding activity that is of the highest international standard.

Gifts in Wills

As a charity NICHS is completely reliant on the generosity of our supporters. Gifts in wills are particularly important when it comes to funding research to identify the cause, to develop treatments and ultimately prevent debilitating chest, heart & stroke illnesses. Leaving a gift in your will to NICHS could make a huge difference to the caring work that we are able to undertake too. Such an investment in prevention and care comes at a cost. If you leave a gift in your will to NICHS, you could help build a healthier Northern Ireland free from chest, heart and stroke illnesses.

Parkinson's UK

What we do

Every hour, 2 people in the UK are told they have Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s UK is the UK’s leading charity supporting those with the condition.

We bring people with Parkinson’s, their carers and families together via our network of local groups, our website and free confidential helpline. Specialist nurses, our supporters and staff provide information and training on every aspect of Parkinson’s.

As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. We also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services.

We are dependent on voluntary donations.

Gifts in Wills

Gifts in Wills fund almost half of our vital work.

A gift to Parkinson’s UK will help us continue our search for better treatments and – one day – a cure.

In fact, gifts in Wills today are helping us towards our ambition of doubling the amount we spend on research.

So, when you’re ready to make or update your Will, and once loved ones are provided for, consider a gift to Parkinson’s UK. Large or small, all gifts will make a difference and help to ensure we are always here for people affected by Parkinson’s.

TinyLife

What we do

TinyLife is Northern Ireland’s premature and sick baby charity dedicated to reducing illness, disability and death in babies born here.

Every day, there are 7 babies born too soon. The charity offers a wide range of support services to families who have experienced premature birth or the birth of a baby requiring special care or intensive care. These services include; hospital based support, home based volunteer programme, breast pump loan service, continue to fund medical research, parents groups, baby massage and baby yoga, sensory room service, baby physio gym and resource library.

TinyLife (formerly NIMBA) was set up in 1988 by healthcare professionals and concerned parents in response to the growing number of babies requiring special or intensive care at birth.

We make a valuable contribution to families across Northern Ireland by continuing to support medical research into the area of stillbirth, miscarriage and premature birth and by identifying and addressing the shortfalls in follow-up services for all those affected by premature birth.

We work closely with healthcare professionals, parents and local health authorities to keep up to date with the changing needs of families and to identify how best to address them.

Gifts in Wills

Legacies are an impactful part of our income and have allowed us to progress several larger projects.  Consider leaving a legacy to TinyLife in your will; we could do so much more for families who are in need of our vital services.
