Barnardo’s
Long Business Description:

Barnardo's

What we do

Barnardo’s first project in Northern Ireland was a soup kitchen opened in 1899 on Great Victoria Street, Belfast. Barnardo’s has gone through many changes since then but our work is still firmly based on the philosophy of our founder Thomas Barnardo, we believe in children – no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through. We will ensure their needs are met and their voices heard.

Today we have over 40 different services and programmes for vulnerable children and young people and their families right across Northern Ireland. Our work includes early intervention programmes, child and family support such as the Willowgrove service in Banbridge, which provides breaks and respite care for young people with a learning disability. We also provide educational programmes which support parents to improve educational standards for their children like Jigsaw in Magherafelt, as well as our fostering and adoption services.

Gifts in Wills

After looking after your family and friends, leaving a gift in your Will to Barnardo’s is a fantastic way for you to make sure a vulnerable child or young person has someone to turn to. For instance, 1% of a £100,000 estate can help one young person recovering from being sexually exploited get their life back on track through counselling at a Barnardo’s project like Safe Choices in Belfast. Alternatively a gift of £1000 could help 10 care leavers make the difficult transition into independent living by providing second hand furniture. Leave a vulnerable child someone to turn to by leaving a gift in your Will to Barnardo’s.

Cancer Fund for Children
Business Genre: ,
Long Business Description:

Cancer Fund for Children

What we do

Every week in Northern Ireland, three more children or young people are diagnosed with cancer, leaving three more families to cope with a level of devastation that is almost impossible to comprehend. Cancer Fund for Children understands the impact a cancer diagnosis and treatment can have on the whole family, and that beyond the essential medical care, there is a family life that needs to be rebuilt. Our services include: one-to-one and groups support; therapeutic short breaks for the whole family; financial support during treatment; support for siblings; bereavement support; and our Young Shoulders Programme for children whose parent has cancer.

Gifts in Wills

A gift in your will could help us to ensure that more children can avail of therapeutic group activities at Narnia Log Cabin in Newcastle, where they can come together with other young people who are living with cancer to share experiences and gain strength from each other. It could help us to provide one-to-one support to a young person whose parent or carer has cancer, to help them cope with the huge impact this has on their life. Or it could provide short breaks for families at Daisy Lodge, our therapeutic respite centre in Newcastle, Co Down, giving families the opportunity to spend quality time together away from hospitals and treatment regimes.

Put simply, your gift will make a direct and measurable impact on our work. Even a small gift can make a big difference to a family. A larger gift will be a lasting legacy and we would be happy to discuss what could be achieved.

Children in Crossfire
Long Business Description:

Children in Crossfire

What We Do

When he was only 10 years old, Richard Moore from Derry/Londonderry was blinded by a rubber bullet fired at point blank range. Richard could have given in to bitterness but chose instead to live a life of forgiveness, compassion and caring for others. He founded Children in Crossfire in 1996, with the goal of helping free some of the world’s most vulnerable children from poverty and injustice.

Since then, Children in Crossfire has changed the lives of many thousands of children in African countries. Our focus now is on Early Childhood Development in Tanzania and Ethiopia, where we work to ensure young children in those countries get the positive start in life they deserve. Progress has been made there in recent years but so much more is needed. Providing access to a school building is on its own not enough for the children we help. A more nutritious diet, access to safe and clean water, well trained teachers, properly equipped classrooms and class sizes that allow for learning are all vital if young children are to fulfil their potential. For every £1 Children in Crossfire raises, 84p is invested directly in our programmes. That money is not only life-changing, often it is life-saving.

Our goal is simple: to do more for more. That requires us to raise more. We hope you will be inspired by our vision.

Gifts in Wills

By leaving a legacy to Children in Crossfire you will be investing in the futures of some of the world’s most vulnerable children. Your gift will help them to grow up in good health and well educated – ensuring they can fulfil their potential in life.

CLIC Sargent
Business Genre: ,
Long Business Description:

CLIC Sargent

What we do

CLIC Sargent is a leading cancer charity in Northern Ireland for children, young people and their families. Our care teams have been providing specialist support to them for years.

We know that for young lives, when the doctor says cancer, normal life stops. Cancer affects every part of life – relationships, confidence, money, school, work.

CLIC Sargent care teams will fight tirelessly to limit the damage cancer causes. They will listen, and ask the right questions, so that they can provide the right support, tailored to each young person and family.

This might mean arranging a CLIC Sargent grant or helping young people and families get the benefits they are entitled to. Coordinating care so that some medical procedures can happen at home, or arranging free accommodation in one of our CLIC Sargent Homes from Home near Belfast City Hospital and The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Or helping young cancer patients and families keep in touch with school, college or work to keep life as normal as possible.

CLIC Sargent will also fight for young lives with cancer by taking what they tell us about the impact of cancer on their lives to the government, service providers and policy makers to improve things and make real change happen.

Gifts in Wills

CLIC Sargent is completely funded through voluntary donations, and gifts in Wills are hugely important.  Today one in eight of the young cancer patients we support are funded through gifts in Wills.  Just as gifts pledged in the past are supporting our work now, gifts pledged today could help us to be here in the future too.

Currently we can only help two out of three young cancer patients and their families. With a gift in your Will, you could help us be there for a child or young person facing cancer in the future. One day you could make the difference of a lifetime.

Integrated Education Fund
Long Business Description:

Integrated Education Fund

What we do

The Integrated Education Fund financially supports and campaigns for more integrated education in response to demand from parents, schools and local communities.

The integrated school provides a learning environment where children and young people from Catholic and Protestant backgrounds, as well as those of other faiths and none, can learn with, from and about each other.

Without change the vast majority of children will continue to be educated separately according to their religious or community background. The cost of inaction will mean another generation growing up with limited contact with one another.

Gifts in Wills

Imagine a Northern Ireland where children, irrespective of their religious or cultural background, can grow up together, sit side by side in the same classroom and play in the same playground. A Northern Ireland where the parents of those children meet at the same school gate, sit on the same PTA, attend the same religious and cultural celebrations with all the children of the school.

The Integrated Education Fund is there to help but this depends on your support. As an independent charity we rely exclusively on fundraising to carry out our work.

We appeal to you to go that extra mile and – once you have made provision for those close to you – consider leaving a legacy to the Integrated Education Fund, to enable us to create a better future for the children of Northern Ireland.

Music for Life, home of the African Children’s Choir
Long Business Description:

What we do

Music for Life is the official fundraising charity of the African Children’s Choir. Established in 1984 and empowering African children trapped in the cycle of poverty, to rise up and create positive, lasting change

We work to bridge cultural gaps and spread hope and joy while shining the spotlight on the desperate plight of children in Africa.  Each year a Choir is composed of especially needy children in Uganda who are selected to join the Choir Programme.   The Choir tour gives the children a world class education by allowing them to experience things that they could only read about in textbooks. Their confidence and self-esteem is greatly enhanced when they return home and are better placed to take advantage of the scholarship extended to them by Music for Life.

Music for Life is a Christian organisation.  We are uniquely positioned to do this because we make deep, long-term investments in children who go on to have an exponential impact on their families, communities and countries.

Gifts in Wills

Thanks to the legacies left by supporters of Music for Life, many children are able to look forward to a brighter future, one that includes a quality education, nutritious meals, clothing and medical care.  Leaving a legacy is a practical way to extend the support you have given to the African Children’s Choir during your lifetime.  You’ll be making an investment that will generate long-term returns and help Africa’s most needy children grow into productive, self-sufficient adults.  Even a small gift or percentage of your estate can make a huge difference to our work and your investment in our future will leave a legacy of hope and healing in the lives of children.

Plan International UK
Long Business Description:

Plan International UK

What we do

Plan International UK is a global children’s charity. We work to give every child the same chance in life.

In every child there’s a spark of imagination, curiosity and ambition. But not every child is born with the same opportunities.

When you face poverty or violence the odds are stacked against you. When you’re a girl it’s even harder to be safe, to be in school and to be in charge of your body.

All children deserve an education, healthcare and clean water.

All children deserve the chance to thrive.

We’re fighting so every child, especially every girl, knows their value. We’re fighting so the communities they’re growing up in – and the world around them – value them too. And if disaster strikes we’re there to protect children, keep them learning and help them recover.

We work to give every child, every chance. Are you in?

Gifts in Wills

Education is power, pass it on.

How will you make your mark on the world? If you include a gift to Plan International UK in your will, you’ll help the next generation of girls learn the most valuable lessons they’ll ever learn. Lessons in self-esteem, life skills and independence.

We understand that your loved ones should always come first and that including a gift in your will is a very personal decision. So we’d like to send you more information to help you give it some thought. Please contact us on the details below and we’ll be happy to help.

On behalf of every child who hasn’t yet met their full potential, thank you so much for considering a gift to Plan International UK. Your kindness could open up opportunities that many girls never dreamt possible.
