What we do
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We rely on thousands of dedicated lifeboat volunteers and lifeguards to run our lifesaving service. Separate from the coastguard and independent of government, we are a charity with one aim – to save every one.
Our volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland and our seasonal lifeguards patrol busy beaches. RNLI crews and lifeguards have saved over 144,000 lives since 1824.
We’re more than just a rescue service – we influence, supervise and educate people too. Our Community Safety teams explain the risks and share safety knowledge with anyone going out to sea or to the coast. And our international teams work with like-minded organisations to help tackle drowning in communities at risk all around the world.
Gifts in Wills
Did you know that 6 in 10 lifeboat launches are only possible thanks to gifts in Wills?
Gifts in Wills help give our lifesavers everything they need to launch to the rescue and save lives at sea. Any gift, large or small, makes a real difference. It will help provide lifeboat crews and lifeguards with the kit, training and equipment they need to launch to the rescue. Your kindness will keep them safe on the water and bring them home to their families when the job is done.
Across our almost 200 year history, RNLI lifesavers have answered the call to rescue – A gift in your Will is their protection at sea.
You can write your simple Will for free and leave a gift to RNLI.
